And it’s this fact that, for me, somewhat limits the usefulness of Spector Pro. But, while the application can’t be located, depending on where you choose to save the files Spector Pro uses to store its logs, it may be possible for someone with a bit of computer savvy to locate those files and wonder what they are. The only way to open the program on the Mac being watched is by pressing a user-configurable key combination and entering a user-defined password. Once installed, Spector Pro is invisible to the person using the target computer, and can’t be found by using Spotlight or by looking in the Applications folder. While most keylogging software is designed to capture and report keystrokes, Spector Pro goes a step further, capturing screenshots every few seconds, so that you can see as well as read everything that’s happening on another Mac. When direct and open fails, Spector Pro handles its rather unsavory job with aplomb and with a bit of a twist. Aimed at companies that want to control employees’ online activity, or at worried parents wondering what their teens are up to online, SpectorPro makes tracking this activity simple, but I wonder if the behaviors that this software is designed to track couldn’t be controlled in a more direct and open way. I understand why software of this sort-also known as keylogging software–is sometimes necessary but it’s software that some people will find difficult to get comfortable with. You can configure not only the rate, but also how much disk space to allocate to the data files and how many days worth of data to retain.Spector Pro mac 2009, like its sister applicationĢ009 ( ), is software that specializes in capturing every keystroke on one computer so it can be viewed by someone else on another computer. You can adjust the capture rate down to a minimum of 1 second, so when you play it back, it looks almost like real-time, and at that capture rate, it'll probably show what you've moved. I don't know - the Spector Pro program might catch what you are doing if a particular screen capture coincides with your dragging and dropping. OK, so no more banking work at cafes.ĭo you know if the keylogger programs capture text that is moved by DRAG and DROP, as opposed to copy paste in the clipboard? Text in drag and drop is not stored in the clipboard, but I don't know where or how it is exactly stored as it is moved by drag and drop. God help us if this stuff is installed at your internet cafe. A bit like seeing your life flashing before your eyes. It is incredibly useful though - I just played back everything I've done over the last 2 days. It's incredible - captures everything: keystrokes, screenshots, emails. There is even a "Remote Install" option whereby you do not need to have physical access to the target Computer to install the program. However the program will not send the information over the Internet - you have to have physical access to the machine to read recorded Data.Īnother program from the same Company, E-Blaster, records all Emails sent and received (accessed) on the Computer and sends a copy to an Email Address you specify. All this information is recorded on the Computer HD and can be viewed by starting the program using Hotkeys - and the Hotkeys can also be configured to choice. The program records ALL activity on the Computer - not just when connected to the Internet. This is obviously not desirable, but it is a reality.Ī program called Spector Pro records not only Keystrokes and BOTH sides of all Chat sessions, it records Screenshots at a rate the installer can set himself. It seems to me there are lots of people who are in a position where they do need to do secure transactions from internet cafes. Does anyone know how common this is?Ĭlearly, even if keyloggers don't track info in the copy-paste buffer, if a screen shot program was installed, using the copy paste from a Wordpad file would be useless because there would be a screenshot record of all actions onscreen. If this kind of keylogger does not exist, why not? Is there any technical reason that it could not be developed?Īlso, it is my understanding there are indeed viruses that install programs that record the screenshots of everthing that happens during a computing session, and then send to a remote site. On the idea of copying and pasting from Wordpad, does anyone know if there is any keylogger that records information in the copy-paste buffer in other words not typed in?
